Ben Wilson pitched a gem of a game to lead the Yachtsmen to a 7-0 shut out over Windham. Wilson gave up only an infield single, struck out 8 and walked 1 in 5 innings of work. Eli Cowperthwaite pitched the final 2 innings striking out 3 and allowing 1 hit.
Windham’s biggest threat came in the first inning. Wilson got 2 quick outs. Then with 2 strikes threw a sharp breaking ball for a swing and a miss, but the ball hit the dirt and allowed the runner to reach first. The next batter hit a dribbler off first base for a single. With runners on first and third Wilson picked the runner off first to end the threat and the inning.
In the home half of the first, Sam Kidder hit a single, stole second and moved third on an error. Patrick Gill delivered an RBI sac fly for a 1-0 lead.
Falmouth got three hits in the second inning but could not score. Ben Keller and Sean Dillworth each singled. Windham catcher Brady Aptham picked Keller off second. Eban Daniels singled, but again Aptham threw him out attempting to stretch it into a double.
Windham got another runner on in the third by way of a walk, but Wilson picked him off to erase the base runner and then struck out the next two hitters to end the inning.
Falmouth got 2 more runs in the third. Kidder reached with a single. Brady Coyne singled. Gus Ford reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second base to put runners on second and third. Patrick Gill hit a deep fly ball to center field. Kidder scored easily and the speedy Ford tagged from second based and also scored. It was a rare 2 RBI sac fly for Gill and a 3-0 lead for the Yachtsmen.
Windham went down in order in the fourth inning. Falmouth broke the game open by scoring three more runs in their half of the inning. Sean Dillworth doubled and Eban Daniels singled to put runners on first and third. Falmouth then executed a double steal which lead to Dillworth scoring. Kidder hit an RBI single to score Daniels. Brady Coyne hit an RBI single to score Kidder and Falmouth led 6-0 after four innings.
Falmouth closed out the scoring in the sixth inning. Brennan Rumpf doubled and Sam Kidder tripled for his fourth hit of the day and another RBI.
Falmouth improved to 7-2 on the season. They are back in action on Saturday in Gorham where they start a stretch of playing 3 double headers in 8 days.

SOUTH PORTLAND 2, FALMOUTH 0
Bradley McMains pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead the Red Riots (4-1) past the Yachtsmen (5-2) at South Portland. The lefty kept Falmouth off-balance all game and was effective at handling the Falmouth base runners.
In the top of the first inning, Sam Kidder walked and moved to second on a wild pitch but was stranded there.
In the Riot’s half of the first, a base hit and 2 stolen bases had a runner of third base. Kidder made a diving catch on a line drive hit to center field. The throw back to the infield was mis-played and the runner scored for a 1-0 SP lead after one inning.
In the second inning, Dom Tracy was hit by a pitch. Bennet Smith hit into a fielder’s choice replacing Tracy at first. Smith was thrown out attempting to steal second to end the Falmouth half of the inning.
In the bottom of the second inning, South Portland strung together 3 hits and scored a run to take a 2-0 lead. Brady Coyne turned a double play for Falmouth to end any further damage.
Eli Cowperthwaite started on the mound for Falmouth. He scattered 8 hits, struck out 4 and did not walk anyone. He gave up 2 runs, 1 of them unearned. After the second inning, he kept South Portland offense in check, but the Yachtsmen could not mount a rally to even the score.
Falmouth got another base runner in the third inning when Brennan Rumpf reached on an error, but McMains picked him off first.
Brady Coyne broke the through with a base hit in the fourth inning for Falmouth, but he was caught stealing.
Cowperthwaite was effective at preventing South Portland from increasing their lead. He gave up a hit in the sixth inning and with 2 outs was replaced by Ben Wilson. Wilson came in and promptly picked off the base runner at first to end the inning without throwing a pitch.
Falmouth went quietly in the seventh inning and South Portland took the victory.
Noah Dreifus had three hits and a run scored for South Portland. Andrew Heffernan chipped in a hit and an RBI single.
Falmouth had only 1 hit with only 1 runner making it to second base.

Scarborough got on the board in the first inning. Donahue doubled and Nick Frink hit a 2-run homer. In the Falmouth half of the inning, Sam Kidder singled and stole second, but was left stranded on third base.
In the third inning, Scarborough had a runner reach on an error and moved to third base on a base hit. With runners on first and third, Scarborough attempted a double steal that was mis-played and resulted in a run scoring. A sacrifice fly led to the second run in the inning. Ethan Hendry threw out a runner attempting to steal third base – limiting the damage.
In the bottom of the third, Brady Coyne singled for the Yachtsmen. Kidder hit a deep fly ball to center field but was robbed of a home run by a nice catch by the Scarborough center fielder. Scarborough kept their 4-0 lead and prevented any momentum shift to Falmouth.
In the fourth inning, Falmouth’s Gus Ford singled, and Patrick Gill doubled to put runners on second and third. Bennet Smith delivered an RBI groundout for the Yachtsmen’s first run. Ben Keller had another ground out RBI that cut Scarborough’s lead to 4-2 after four innings.
Falmouth threatened again in the fifth. Brennan Rumpf and Kidder each singled, but a hard line drive to the outfield was caught to end the inning.
Scarborough broke the game open in the sixth inning. The first two batters reached with singles. A double steal and a Falmouth error resulted in one run. An infield hit plated the second run of the inning. With two outs and runners on first and third, Ashton Blanchette sliced a line drive down the left field line that was just outside the reach of Gus Ford’s diving attempt. Blanchette ended up with a triple driving in two more runs.
With one out in the Falmouth half of the sixth, Smith reached on an error, Keller walked, and Hendry singled. With the bases loaded, Pete McCluskey delivered a sacrifice fly to score Smith. The next Falmouth hitter went down on strikes limiting Falmouth to only 1 run for the inning. Scarborough led 8-2 after six innings.
In the seventh inning, Scarborough drew a walk and scored on a Frink double. Falmouth threatened again when Coyne reached on a base hit, Kidder reached on an error and Gill reached on a base hit, but a line drive double play ended that threat.
Bennet Smith took the loss in 6 innings of work for Falmouth. He struck out 2, allowed 8 hits and did not walk anyone. He was charged with 8 runs, but several of them were un-earned. Ben Wilson pitched the 7th inning for Falmouth. He struck out 1, walked 1, and allowed 1 run on 1 hit.
Scarborough’s Joe Townsend went the distance. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits and 1 walk. He struck out 5 in earning the victory.
Scarborough moved to 3-0 on the season while Falmouth fell to 5-1. Falmouth will host Portland for a double header on Saturday beginning at 11:00AM.
